On his way home for demobilization Driver Malord Nobel Robinson has lost his life through an accident. Deceased was the youngest of the eight sons of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gale Robinson, of Weston-on-Trent, who offered their services to their country, and enlisted in September, 1914. He had been on active service throughout the operations at Salonica. The sad news reached his parents a few days ago that the train in which he was coming through France stopped at Epluches, where the soldiers had tea. They were some distance from the train when it started from the station, and ran after it. There had been some rain and when after running along the line, he put his foot on the step board, his foot slipped and he fell under the train, his right leg being badly crushed. The train was stopped, and the medical officer gave immediate attention, but he died at midnight. His officer, in communicating the sad news to his parents, said: “He was very popular with both officers and comrades, and after the horrors of war for 4½ years it was bad luck indeed for him when so near to his home. Allow me to offer you my heartfelt sympathy, also that of his comrades, in your great loss under such distressing circumstances.” Deceased was only 22 years of age. Deceased’s brothers who have served in the war are Sergt. Edward Gale Robinson, Sherwood Rangers Imperial Yeomanry, wounded August, 1915; Pte. Colin Robinson, Army Service Corps; Pte. Lyon Robinson, wounded October,1917, and discharged in 1918, awarded Military Medal in 1918; Trevor Robinson, H.M.S. Bonetta; Arden Robinson, H.M.S. P39, Pte Hadrow Robinson, joined in Australia and was subsequently discharged; Pte. Bernard Robinson, Welsh Regiment. A memorial service was held at Weston-on-Trent Church on Sunday evening, when there was a large congregation and the Rev. W. B. Watson, M.A., rector made suitable reference to the sad event.
